The 2017 TONY Awards Nominations !

New York, NY (May 2, 2017) – Nominations in 24 competitive categories for the American Theatre Wing’s 71st Annual Antoinette Perry “Tony” Awards® were announced today by Tony Award-winning actress Jane Krakowski and past Tony Award nominee Christopher Jackson at the Tony Award Nominations ceremony, sponsored by IBM, held at the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts at Lincoln Center. The nominees were selected by an independent committee of 43 theatre professionals appointed by the Tony Awards Administration Committee. The 2017 Tony Awards are presented by The Broadway League and the American Theatre Wing.  (The list of nominations follows.) 

Marking 71 years of excellence on Broadway, The Tony Awards, hosted by Tony and Academy Award-winning actor Kevin Spacey, will be broadcast live from the Radio City Music Hall on CBS, on Sunday, June 11th, 8:00 – 11:00 p.m. (ET/PT time delay).  

Legitimate theatrical productions opening in any of the 41 eligible Broadway theatres during the current season may be considered for Tony nominations. The 2016/2017 eligibility season began April 30, 2016 and ended April 28, 2017. The Tony Awards will be voted in 24 competitive categories by 839 designated Tony voters within the theatre community.   

As previously announced, the 2017 Special Tony Award for Lifetime Achievement in the Theatre will be presented to James Earl Jones.  The 2017 Tony Honors for Excellence in the Theatre will be presented to General Manager Nina Lannan and General Manager Alan Wasser.   The Isabelle Stevenson Tony Award will be presented to director, actress, chorographer Baayork Lee.   This year, a Special Tony Award will be presented to Gareth Fry and Peter Malkin for their outstanding Sound Design on The Encounter. 

 

Each year, the Tony Awards Administration Committee presents a Tony Award to a regional theatre on the recommendation of the American Theatre Critics Association. The 2017 Regional Theatre Tony Award will be presented to the Dallas Theatre Center in Dallas, Texas.

 

The 2016-2017 Tony Award Nominating Committee consists of Adrian Bailey, Victoria Bailey, Luis Castro, Hope Clarke, Paul Cremo, Scott Elliott, Harvey Evans, Paul Gallo, Jenny Gersten, Daniel Goldfarb, Sam Gonzalez, Adam Gwon, Peter Hedges, Mara Isaacs, Lou Jacob, Anne Keefe, Tom Kitt, Fran Kumin, Michael John LaChiusa, Kate Levin, Reynold Levy, Patricia Marx, Jim McLaughlin, Tony Meola, Jessica Molaskey, Roger Morgan, Laurence O’Keefe, Katherine Oliver, Christian Parker, Paige Price, Ravi S. Rajan, Paul Rudnick, Susan H. Schulman, Mikki Shepard, Warner Shook, Ellen Sorrin, Jessica Stone, Edward Strong, Wynn Thomas, Jennifer von Mayrhauser, Tom Watson, Preston Whiteway and Evan Yionoulis. 

                                                             

The Antoinette Perry “Tony” Awards are bestowed annually on theatre professionals for distinguished achievement. The Tony is one of the most coveted awards in the entertainment industry and the annual telecast is considered one of the most prestigious programs on television.   

 

The 2017 American Theatre Wing’s Tony Awards are presented by The Broadway League and the American Theatre Wing. At The Broadway League, Robert E. Wankel is Chairman and Charlotte St. Martin is President. At the American Theater Wing, David Henry Hwang is Chairman and Heather A. Hitchens is President.
