FLUSHING, NEW YORK, (SMI-SPORTS-AUGUST 29-SEPTEMBER 11, 2022)-The second -round of the 2022 US Open Tennis women's single tournament concluded today with world-ranked #1 Aryna Sabalenka(Belarus), Danielle Collins(US ),Jessica Pegula(US), Gabine Muguruza(Spain),Belinda Bencic(Swiss), Paula Badosa(Spain) & Karolina Pliskova(Czech) claiming victories and advancing to the 3rd round of the 142nd edition of the US Open Grand Slam taking place at Flushing Meadows, Queens NY.
There were not any major upsets in today's women competition comparing to yesterday where 23-time Grand-slam women's single champion Serena Williams who entered the 2022 US Open unranked after announcing her retirement this year, defeated world#2, Anett Kontaveit (Estonia) in 3-sets 7-6, 2-6, 6-2, Leylah Fernandez (World#14, Canada) was upset by Ludmilla Samsonova(Russi) in two sets 6-3,7-6 and world#3 Maria Sakkari loss to unranked Wang Xiyu (China) in 3-sets 6-3, 5-7,5-7, with the three advancing to the third round.
In other matches, Coco Gauff(US) beat Elena Ruse in two-sets (6-2,7-6), Madison keys(US) defeated Camila Giorgi of Italy in 3-sets (6-4, 5-7, 7-6),
Ons Jabeur(Tunisia,World#5) triumphs over Elizabeth Mandlik(US) in 2-sets 7-5, 6-2 and Shelby Rodgers claimed victory over Viktoria Kuzmova in 2-sets 7-5, 6-1, for the 4 players advancing to the 3rd round of the competition.
