FIFA WORLD-CUP QATAR 2022 (SMI-SPORTS-NOV. 20- DEC. 18, 2022)-The 2-time world cup champions "Argentina " collided with the Netherlands during a colossal quarterfinal match of FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, where "La Albiceleste" defeated " The Orange Machine " 4-3, in penalty shootout, advancing to the semifinal rounds to face Croatia who stunned Brazil 4-2, in penalty kicks on Tuesday Dec. 13, at Lusail Stadium.
The South-American powerhouse Argentina led by Lionel Messi and the Dutch team with its star Cody Gakpo battled during the 120' minute including the overtime period ending the game with a 2-0, draw, and subsequently "La Albiceleste " finishing victorious 4-3, over the Netherlands in penalty shots.
Argentina and the Netherlands have faced each other 6-times in world cup competitions and with this victory, "La Albiceleste " improves to 3-2-1 overall record knocking out the Dutch team from the tournament once again in penalty kicks like they did in World Cup 2014.
The Argentinians opened the score first through defender Nahuel Molina at 34th minute to put Argentina 1-0, over "The Orange Machine". Top-striker Lionel Messi during a counter-attack through the right-side field passed a perfect pass inside the 18' to defender Molina who shot a hard rolling right-footed to the far-left goalpost that ended in back of the net to send theirs 40,000+ fans wild and 1-0, in favor of the South-American team at the half.
In the second half, Argentina picked-up where the left-off and during another counter-attack through the left-side pitch, "La Albiceleste" added its second goal at 72' through a penalty kick called when defender Marcos Acuña was brought down inside the penalty area by Jurrien Timber. Messi executed the penalty kick, scoring his second goal in the game and fourth overall in the World Cup Qatar 2022.
With Argentina leading 2-0, and seven minute remaining in the game, Dutch's forward Wout Weghorst who entered the game from the bench in the second half scored two goals at 83' & 90+11' in stoppage time to tie the game 2-2, and send the game two 15-minute overtime period.
In extra time, both teams countered-attacks without finding the back of the net sending the game to penalty kicks to decide the winner.
Argentina's goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez saved the first two attempts in the penalty shootout, blocking Dutch's Virgil van Dijk and Steven Berghuis while Lionel Messi and Leandro Paredes scored to put "La Albiceleste " 2-0, in the 5-penalty kicks. Gonzalo Montiel scored for Argentina while Enzo Fernandez missed his shot to give hope the Dutch team who scored the next three shots through Teun Koopmeiners, Wout Weghorst and Luuk de Jong to make it 3-3, and one shot left for Argentina.
Lautaro Martinez scored to make it 4-3, in the penalty shootout to sealed the win for Argentina and send the Albiceleste to the semifinals to face Croatia next Tuesday December 13, 2022 at Lusail Stadium in Qatar.
