NEW YORK (SMI-WIRE,12.20.14) The Columbia men's basketball team rallies in the second half with strong offensive attack & defeats Hofstra, 82-77,snapping a eight losing streak to Hofstra & heading next into a showdown game against defending national champion ,UCONN on monday's evening in Bridgeport Connecticut.
A high energy game between two New York local teams that battled exchanging baskets and keeping the score within reach,
until Hofstra made a 10-4 run to give the Pride a 38-34 heading into the locker-rooom at the half.Lo was nearly unstoppable for the Lions in the second half, scoring 23 points on 8-of-14 shooting, while hitting seven threes and adding a team-high seven rebounds. Leading by three with 9:07 to play, Columbia went on a 14-7 run over seven minutes, incluing eight points by Lo, to take a 10-point lead, 73-63.Hofstra answered back with an 8-0 run of their own to cut the lead to two, 73-71 with 2:15 remaining.The Pride continued to battle, but solid free throw shooting by Steve Frankoski, Noah Springwater and Lo led to the 82-77 final.The Lions were led by the superb performance of Maodo Lo, scoring 29 points, tying a career high including 7-15 from the 3-point range and 7 rebounds. Steve Frankoski contributed with 14 points & 4 assists , while Kyle Castlin added 13 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists & a steal.
Columbia offence shot 50% from the floor in the second half & 43% overall in the game.The Lions also shot 37% from the 3-point long range & 70% from the free thrown.The Lions out-rebounded Hofstra 41-35 and there were 8-tied score & 8- lead changed times in the game.
With the win, the lions improve to 6-3 overall ,while Hofstra drops to 7-3.
