FLUSHING, NY (SMI-SPORTS, 09.12.21)-World# 2 tennis player " Daniil Medvedev of Russia defeated world-ranked #1, Novak Djokovic(Serbia) in 3-sets (6-4,6-4,6-4) in the final championship match of the 2021 US Open, winning his first tennis Grand-slam of his career at Arthur Ashe Stadium in Flushing Meadows, NY.

 

Medvedev stunned the world with this major upset over Djokovic, who was trying to make history in completing the year Grand Slam calendar by winning 4 major tennis titles in the same year since Rod Laver of Australia did in 1969 and 1962 for the men tournament, and Steffi Graf for the women in 1988.

The Russian player, who reached the finals of the 2019 US Open and 2021 Australia Open and lost both to Rafael Nadal and  Novak Djokovic, claimed his first major title on his third attempt in style with a sweet revenge match against the 20-times Grand slam champion Novak Djokovic.
