NEW YORK (SMI-WIRE,09.11.16)Sixteen-year old Kayla Day, of Santa Barbara, Calif., won the US Open Junior Girls' Singles title Sunday, defeating Slovakian Viktoria Kuzmova, 6-3, 6-2, on the new Grandstand court at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.

Day's victory clinched an American sweep of the US Open girls' singles and doubles titles, after 18-year olds Ena Shibahara (Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif.) and Jada Hart (Colton, Calif.) defeated Day and Caroline Dolehide, 4-6, 6-2 [13-11], in Saturday's girls' doubles final, the first all-American US Open girls' doubles final since 1992.

The American sweep of the junior girls' titles is the second in five years at the US Open, the last coming in 2012, when Samantha Crawford won the singles title and Taylor Townsend and Gabby Andrews won the doubles title.

It also caps a week in which a record 10 American girls reached the round of 16 in the US Open Junior Championships.

"It’s really exciting, because a lot of the girls who got to the Round of 16 are not girls who were committed to playing a full, international schedule. That speaks to the depth of the female players on the junior side," said USTA Player Development General Manager Martin Blackman. "And these girls have another 15 women to look up to in the Top 100. The competition between these girls and the women that have already broken through is really going to produce a demonstrative effect."
