HARRISON, NJ(SMI-SPORTS.08.29.21)-The NJ/NY Gotham FC women's soccer team dropped its third consecutive game to Orlando Pride 1-0, on NWSL play at home, during "Olympic Return Night" where the team welcomed back-home three olympic medalists Carli Lloyd, Kailen Sheridan, and Evelyn Viens at RedBulls Arena in Harrison, NJ.
Prior to the start of the game, Carli Lloyd, Evelyn Viens of the US women's national soccer team and Kailen Sheridan of Canada were honored for their participation in the 2020 Tokyo Summer Olympics with a welcomed back home celebration in front of the audience that attended the game at RedBulls Arena.
Both team played very aggressive and physical from the start.
Gotham almost scored at the opening minute when Carli Lloyd found a loose ball outside the 18' and ran inside the box kicking a right-footed that was saved and deflected out of bounds by Orlando's goalkeeper Ashley Harris.
Orlando FC had few opportunities as well but the closest to scoring a goal was in the 37' when top striker Martha with the ball outside box shot a left-footed very wide of the left goal post of Gotham's Kailen Sheridan.
In the second half, the visitors opened the score unexpectedly at 49' minute when on a counter-attack through the right-side field, defender Sydney Leroux passed the ball to Erika Tymrak who ran with the ball few feet and kicked a right looping shot from 23 yards away over the head of Gotham's goalkeeper Kailen Sheridan, scoring a beautiful goal also known in soccer an "Olympic Goal" or "Wonder Goal" and the only goal of the game that gave the Orlando Pride FC the victory of 1-0, over NJ/NY Gotham FC.
NJ/NY Gotham FC controlled most of the game in the second half, kept the offensive pressure but could not find the equalizer for its third consecutive loss in NWSL play.
With the loss, Gotham record is: 5-6-5 in 7th place with 16 points in the WNSL standings.In the other hand, Orlando improved to 6-6-5 in 4rd place with 17 points overall.
NJ/NY Gotham FC next game will be against the Chicago Red Stars on Saturday September 04, 2021 at RedBulls Arena.
