NYC F.C. & Norwegian's Jo Inge Berget Overcome Defending MLS Champion Toronto F.C. 2-1 on

New Head Coach Debut " Domenec Terrent " at Home !

NEW YORK(SMI-WIRE,06.24.18)-Norwegian's Jo Inge Berget, scored two goals in the second half to help NYC F.C. defeat the MLS defending champions, Toronto F.C. 2-1, on new NYC F.C.'s head coach debut " Domenec Torrent " at the legendary Yankee's Stadium in the Bronx, NYC.

 

Torrent was named Head Coach of New York City FC on June 11, 2018 and today he recorded his first win on his debut as new head coach of Boys in Blue. Before joining New York City FC, Torrent was the Head Coach of Girona F.C. and Assistant Coach at Barcelona FC and Bayern Munich, and Pep Guardiola’s right-hand man at sister club Manchester City FC.

The game started very even with both teams in control until Maxi Morales on breakaway from the left-side of the fied, ran the ball inside the 18' and kicked a hard shot that was blocked by Toronto's goalkeeper Alex Bono, sending the ball for a corner-kick at 13:51'. Toronto answered back immediatley with Osorio on a counter-attack, beating Callens and kicking a hard left-footed shot, hitting the goal crossbar at the 15' minute.The visitors opened the score,when Victor Vasquez received a long ball and loopped the ball over NYC F.C.'s goalkeeper Sean Johnson in the 36' minute for the 1-0 lead for Toronto at the half.

In the beginning of the second half, NYC F.C. wasted no-time and went immediatley into the offensive attack with Norwegiant's Jo Inge Berget scoring the equalizer with a back-heal, after receiving a cross pass from Ismael Tajouri-Shradi inside 12' area at 50' minute to tied the score at one. Later on the game, on an individual play by Maxi Moralez kicked a perfect pass to Jo Inge Berget, who ran the ball inside the 18' and scoring his second goal of the game and his third career goal with NYC F.C. for the final victory of the Boys in Blue over Toronto 2-1.

 

 

About Domenec Torrent:

Torrent was born in Santa Coloma de Farners, a province in Girona, Spain and played as a midfielder in two of the province teams in Girona in the 1980s: UE Olot and AD Guixols.Domènec has been Pep Guardiola’s assistant for the past 11 years, winning 24 trophies across FC Barcelona, FC Bayern Munich, and Manchester City

Guardiola and Domènec became Head Coach and Assistant Coach of the FC Barcelona First Team where they won 14 trophies: three La Liga titles, two UEFA Champions League trophies, two UEFA Super Cups, two Spanish Cups, three Spanish Super Cups, and two Club World Cups.

At Barcelona, Torrent worked with NYCFC captain, David Villa, winning two La Liga titles, the UEFA Champions League, the Copa del Rey, the UEFA Super Cup and the FIFA Club World Cup.

Domènec and Guardiola then went on to Germany to coach Bayern Munich where they lifted the Bundesliga title in each of the three seasons they competed for it.

They won a total of seven trophies at Bayern Munich – three German Championships, two DFB Cups, a UEFA Super Cup, and a Club World Cup.

Domenec joined Guardiola at Manchester City where they broke the Premier League record for most points (100), most away points (50), most points ahead of second (19), most wins (32), most away wins (16), most goals (106), best goal difference (+79) and most consecutive victories (18) in their second season in charge (2017/18).
