FLUSHING, NY(SMI-SPORTS, MAY 22, 2022)-The 2021 MLS defending Champions "NYCFC" defeated the Chicago Fire 1-0, on a Sunday's afternoon game, extending their winning streak to six games and unbeaten record to seven games at CitiField in Flushing, New York City.
With the victory, the Boys in Blue improves to 12-2-3 overall record with 23 points, and temporary takes first place in the MLS Eastern conference standings with Philadelphia playing in a later game in the Westcoast.
The only goal of the game was scored by the Brazilian Heber do Santos through a penalty shot at 23' minute of the first half.Maxi Moralez centered a corner kick inside the penalty box directed to Heber who in a jumped collision with Chicago's defender Miguel Navarro, headed the ball towards the goal but it hit Navarro's left hand deflecting it out of bound. After a VAR review by the referee, the penalty shot call was confirmed and Heber scored with a hard kicked right-footed to the lower right side goalpost sealing the 1-0, victory for New York.
