BRONX, NY (SMI-SPORTS, 11.07.21)-NYC FC top-striker "Taty Castellanos " scored his 19th goal of the season, as NYC FC drew the Philadelphia Union 1-1, on decision day, and secured the 4rd-seed and home-field advantage in first round of the 2021 MLS East playoff at the Legendary Yankees Stadium in the Bronx, NYC.
With the draw, the Boys in Blue closed-out the 2021 MLS season
with 14-11-19 overall record, finishing 4th in the MLS East standings and clinching a spot in the MLS East playoff as a 4rd-seed to face Atlanta United at Yankees Stadium next week.
A high energy and physical game, with both teams trying to control the ball in search for the victory that will give them better position in the MLS East standings, and secure the best seed to gain home-field advantage through the play-off rounds.
Philadelphia opened the score first in the 26th minute, during a counter-attack through the right side field, Union's defender Olivier Mbaizo centered the ball inside the 18, close to the left side goalpost, finding midfielder Leon Flach who passed it immediately to Kacper Przybylko, who scored easily with a left-footed to a wide-open net to put the visitors in front 1-0, at the half.
With a man down after Gedion Zelalem was sent-off with a red card in the 21' minute for illegal tackle against Leon Flach, NYC FC began the second half firing on all cylinders, finding the equalizer at the 53' minute through Taty Castellanos, who scored his 19th goal of the season with header after receiving a center pass inside the box by Max Moralez, tying the game at one and sending the crowd wild in celebration.
With his 19th goal scored in the game , Taty Castellanos was crowned the winner of the 2021 MLS Golden Boot.
The MLS Playoffs will begin on November 20, and NYC FC will face Atlanta United in the first round at Yankees Stadium with time and date to be determined.
