NYC FC Overcome San Jose Earthquake 2-1 & Clinched 2019 MLS Home PlayOff Advantage at Yankees Stadium…!
NEW YORK(SMI-SPORTS,09.14.19)-Keaton Parks & Alexandru Mitriță scored a goal a piece late in the first half as NYCFC defeated San Jose Earthquake, 2-1, with 4 games left in the season and clinched the 2019 MLS Eastern home-Playoff field advantage at Yankees Stadium.
With this win, The Boys in blue has won 6 games and tied one in the last 7 games accumulating 19 points and increase their lead of 6 points over 2nd place Philadelphia, who plays LAFC later today in the Eastern conference.
New York started the game with a very cautious approach offensibly, moving the ball around and trying to find open spaces within the field. On other hand, San Jose Earthquake went to attack from start and controlled the ball that resulted in scoring the first goal at the 20' minutes--during a counter-attack throught the rightside field, Earthquake's midfielder Magnus Eriksson ran the ball down the corner and passed it to Vako, who was running with the play and instantly crossed it to Chris Wondolowski, who shot a left-footed to scored his 14th goal of the season and 158th of his career to put San Jose in front 1-0 over NYC FC.
The Boys in Blue reacted immediatly with numerous offensive attacks on their own, opening the field throught the corners and creating more dangerous attack at the goal defended by Earthquake's goalkeeper Daniel Vega.
After few adjustments in the midfield and continuous offensive attacks, NYC FC even the score 1-1 at 40' minutes through Keaton Parks, who originated a play running through the middle and passed it to Gary Mackay-Steven inside the 18', who kicked a left-footed bouncing off Earthquake's goalkeeper legs back to Parks who tapped the ball into the net to tied the game at one and scoring his first MLS goal of his career.
The momentum was already in place, The Boys in Blue wanted
more and three minutes later the second goal arrived thought the Alexandru Mitrita at the 43' minutes, after receiving a perfect pass from Tajouri-Shradi throught the middle, scoring his 9th goal of the season and the victory of 2-1 of NYC FC over San Jose Earthquake.
With this victory, New York improved to (16-9-5), clinched a MLS Home-playoff advantage and increased their lead of 5 points over second place Philadelphia -who tied tied their game against Atlanta today in the Eastern Standings with just 4 games left in the season.
