NEW YORK(SMI-WIRE,05.03.15) - The NYIT women's tennis team, ranked 10th nationally and first in the East Region, defeated Goldey-Beacom 5-0 Sunday afternoon to advanced to the program's third NCAA Round of 16 appearance. The Bears will face the Buccaneers of Barry University on Wednesday, May 13.
In the regional final against the #38 Lightning, the Bears swept the doubles matches to pull ahead 3-0. Sara Burinato (Barcelona, Spain) and Alessia Rossetti (Minusio, Switzerland) defeated Laura Moreno and Julio Gutierrez 8-3 at the No. 1 spot for the first point of the day. Justyna Krol (Chorzow, Poland) and Gabriela Siembab (Chrzanow, Poland) then topped Filip Correia and Maria Victoria 8-1 at the No. 3 spot. The final doubles point was won at the No. 2 spot when Melanie Benyadi (Saint Etienne, France) and Alex Borgenhoff (Alingsas, Sweden) posted an 8-3 victory over Stefanie Puentes Robinson and Amina Mrad.
Siembab brought the Bears to match point with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Francesca Beg at the No. 6 spot before Rossetti defeated Morreno 6-0, 6-1 at the No. 1 spot to clinch the victory.
NYIT is now 19-3 on the season, while Goldey-Beacom brings the year to a close with a 17-4 record.

NEW YORK (SMI-WIRE,05.03.15)- The NYIT men's tennis team, ranked 13th nationally and second in the East Region, defeated Merrimack 5-1 Sunday afternoon to earn the program's third straight trip to the NCAA Round of 16 next week in Surprise, Ariz. The Bears will face the Blues of Bluefield State on Wednesday, May 13.The Bears are now 13-6 on the season, while the Warriors conclude the year 13-6 overall.
NYIT claimed a 2-1 lead after doubles play with wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 spots. David Jiang (Auckland, N.Z.) and Nico Jubera (La Rioja, Spain) earned the first point of the match with an 8-3 win over Frank Vega and Nick Majewski at the No. 3 spot. The match was then tied as Merrimack picked up its lone point of the day with a 9-7 win at the No. 1 spot. The Bears gained the advanced in a tiebreaker as Rafal Charkiewicz (Opole, Poland) and Matej Selecky (Bratislava, Slovakia) edged Vince Bellino and Miguel Belfort 9-8(5).
The Bears improved to 3-1 with a 6-2, 6-0 win by Charkiewicz over Bellino at the No. 4 spot. Julio Pulido (Caceras, Spain) followed with a 6-2, 6-2 triumph over Francis at the No. 1 spot before Jubera clinched the victory 6-1, 6-0 at the No. 6 spot.
