HARRISON, NJ(SMI-SPORTS, 10.15.22)-The 4-seeded New York RedBulls made the MLS postseason play for the 13th consecutive time but like in the previous 3-years failed to advance to next round after losing 2-1, against Cincinnati in the first round of the 2022 MLS PlayOff at the RedBulls Arena, Harrison, NJ.
With the game ending scoreless in the first half, New York opened the score at the 3' minute at the start of the half when NYRedBulls' top scorer Lewis Morgan found himself with the ball and shot a canon from outside the 18'(25-yards away) landing in the back of the net to put New York 1-0, in front over Cincinnati.
After the crowd went wild in celebration and the team finishing celebrating
on the field, Morgan was replaced due to unexplained and unseen injury by Dylan Nealis that seemed to change the whole dynamic of the RedBulls' offensive attack.
New York lost the ball in the midfield and Cincinnati took control of the game the rest of the way.
Cincinnati went to the offensive all fired-up and in a span of 11-minutes scored two goals to overcome the score and win the game 2-1, over the NYRedBulls. Luciano Acosta scored through a penalty shot to even the game 1-1, after Alvaro Barreal was brought down inside the 18' by RedBulls' defender Elias Manoel at 74' minute. And the second goal came in a counter-attack through the left-side field with Brandon Vazquez scoring the winning goal and sealing the 2-1, victory over New York.
With the win, Cincinnati made history winning its first MLS Play-Off game in franchise history and advances to face Philadelphia in the MLS East Conference semi-finals on Thursday October 20, at Subaru Park, Chester, PA
