NEW YORK, NY(SMI-GLOBAL-ENTERTAINMENT, FEB. 11-14, 2024)-The Paley Center for Media hosted its first 2024 Paleylive NY series Wed. Jan. 11, with the theme: Miracle on the Hudson: How "Sully" and Flight 1549 inspired a Nation" bringing together Captain C.B. “Sully” Sullenberger, Co-Pilot Jeff Skiles, Allyn Stewart( "Sully" Producer), & Flight#1549 passengers Pam Deagle & Barry Leonard for a panel discussion at the Paley Museum in New York City.
The special reunion took place in celebration of the 15-years anniversary of the heroic & historic emergency landing of US Airways Flight#1549 by Captain Chelsey "Sully " Sullenberger & first officer Jeff Skiles on the Hudson River in New York City, saving 155-passengers onboard that became known as " The Miracle on the Hudson" and viral as one of the most sensational story around the world.
The panel discussion was moderated by CNN Anchor Kate Bolduan, and attendees included: Captain C.B. “Sully” Sullenberger, Pilot, US Airways Flight 1549; Barry Leonard, Flight 1549 Passenger; Pam Seagle, Flight 1549 Passenger; Dr. Hilda Roque, First Responder; and Allyn Stewart, Producer," Sully" and Katie Couric, Award-Winning Journalist; Cofounder, Katie Couric Media.
How it Happened:The historic emergency landing took place within 5-minutes after take-off from LaGuardia Airport.
In January 15, 2009 at US Airways Flight#1549, departed from LaGuardia Airport at 3:25pm with destination to Charlotte and Seattle with 155-passengers onboard. Two minutes after take-off and while ascending, a group of large birds struck the plane shutting down the two engines, slowing the speed and sending the plane in descending mode. Captain Sully with limited control of the plane and options to land in other airports, decided to splashdown the plane on the Hudson River, landing safely on the river and saving the lives of the 155-passengers onboard and crew.
" Sully ": Miracle on the Hudson: is a film based on the true story of the historic emergency landing of US Airway Flight #1459, on the Hudson River by Captain Chesley "Sully" Sullenberger and Co-Pilot Jeffrey Skiles, directed by Clint Eastwood and written by Todd Komarnicki.
It document the historic emergency landing of flight #1549 and aftermath investigation of Captain Chesley "Sully" Sullenberger whether he made the right call landing the plane on the river since it was discovered that one engine had enough power to land the plane on either airports Teterboro or LaGuardia.
The lead cast in the film includes Tom Hanks playing Captain Sully, Aaron Eckhart as Jeff Skiles and Laura Linney as Lorraine Sullenberger (Sully's wife).
