CHESTER, PA (SMI-SPORTS, 10.30.-10.31.22)-The #1 seed Philadelphia Union scored three goals in the second half to come from behind and defeat the 2021 MLS Defending champions NYCFC 3-1, in the MLS Eastern championship title game at Subaru Stadium in Chester Pennsylvania.
With the victory, The Union advances to the 2022 MLS Cup final game for the first time in club history and with the chance to win its first ever MLS Crown when they face #1 seed LAFC next Saturday November 05, at Banc of California Stadium in LA.
A sensational Eastern Conference re-match since 2021 when NYCFC defeated the Union 2-1, in similar situation at Subaru Stadium but this time the Union had a full healthy squad and managed to overcome the deficit and finished victorious to claimed its first MLS eastern conference title.
Philadelphia and New York went to the offensive and counter-attacked from the start reaching either goal without any major danger sending both teams heading to the locker-rooms scoreless at the half.
New York opened score first at 56', during a counter-attack originated from the middle by Maxi Morales to Anton Tinnerholm who passed it to Santiago Rodriguez who immediately gave it back to Maxi Morales who kicked a low rolling hard right-footed that ended in the back of the net to put the 2021 defending MLS champions NYCFC 1-0, over Philadelphia, and silencing the sold-out crowd at Subaru Stadium.
The Union answered back with two-goals in a span of 2-minutes 8-minute later to overcome the score and make it 2-1, when Julian Carranza received a perfect pass inside the 18' from Jacob Glesnes through a free-kick and shot a right-footed across NYCFC's Sean Johnson's far goal post to tie the game 1-1, at 65', sending the Philadelphia fans wild. Two minutes later, the Union went ahead in the scoreboard when Jack McGlynn through the right side field centered the ball inside the 18' to Julian Carranza who headed it to Daniel Gazdag who was all alone and scored to make it 2-1, at 67' minute in favor of the Union.
With Philadelphia leading 2-1, took control of the ball and midfield and in another counter-attack 9-minute later, Corey Burke ran with the ball through the middle all of way inside the penalty box and scored the third goal for the Union when NYCFC's defender Anton Tinnerholm failed to clear the ball and gave it to Burke who shot a cannon to seal the victory of Philadelphia 3-1, over NYCFC.
The Union advances to 2022 MLS Cup final game and will face top-seed #1 LAFC
who defeated Austin 3-0, in the Western Conference final game next Saturday November 05, 2022 at Banc of California Stadium in LA.
